Corewell Health Butterworth Hospital (formerly Spectrum Health Butterworth) is Grand Rapids’ flagship academic medical center on the Medical Mile downtown. Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital, physically connected on the same campus, houses West Michigan’s only verified Level IV NICU (stated directly on corewellhealth.org) — the highest level of neonatal care, capable of treating the most critically ill newborns including surgical cases. Trinity Health Grand Rapids Hospital
Trinity Health Grand Rapids (formerly Mercy Health Saint Mary’s) is at 200 Jefferson Avenue SE in central Grand Rapids. It offers a Level II NICU (stated directly on trinityhealthmichigan.org) for moderately ill newborns and a quieter, more community-oriented labor unit than the academic bustle of Corewell. For Level III or IV neonatal care, families are typically transferred to Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital about 1.5 miles away. West Michigan Midwifery Birth Center
West Michigan Midwifery is the only freestanding birth center in the Grand Rapids area, offering both home birth and birth center options.
