Lehi sits at the northern edge of Utah County where I-15 crosses Point of the Mountain — the bottleneck between Utah and Salt Lake counties. American Fork Hospital is about 6 miles north up I-15 (exit 279, 1100 East), and Utah Valley Hospital in Provo is about 15 miles south (exit 273, 500 West). During morning and evening rush, that I-15 stretch between Lehi and Provo can slow to a crawl, and the Point of the Mountain construction zone near the Traverse Mountain/Lehi tech corridor exit adds unpredictable delays — know your back route via State Street (US-89) through Pleasant Grove before you need it. Timpanogos Regional Hospital in Orem is about 10 miles south, also off I-15. Lehi itself doesn’t have a hospital with L&D, so you’re driving no matter what. Winters bring lake-effect snow off Utah Lake and periodic inversion advisories; summers break 100°F regularly. Murdock Canal Trail and the trails around Thanksgiving Point are popular third-trimester walks — flat, paved, and close enough to I-15 that you’re not stranded if something picks up. The Traverse Mountain and Thanksgiving Point neighborhoods are where most of the young Silicon Slopes families cluster.

Hospitals & Birth Centers in Lehi
Here's what you need to know about the hospitals where Lehi moms deliver.
American Fork Hospital (Intermountain Health)
American Fork Hospital, at 170 N 1100 E in American Fork just 6 miles north of Lehi, is the closest hospital with labor and delivery for Lehi families. It has a Level II NICU (special care nursery) — verified on intermountainhealthcare.org — and is known for a more intimate, boutique-style maternity experience compared to the larger regional hospitals. The unit sees a steady volume but maintains a community-hospital feel: private LDR rooms, lactation consultants, midwifery services, and a stabilization-and-transfer protocol for infants needing Level III NICU care at Utah Valley Hospital. Doulas are welcome under Intermountain Health’s general policy. If you’re delivering at American Fork, having your birth plan ready keeps your preferences clear in a busy unit that sees a lot of Utah County families. Use our free hospital birth plan template to get started.
Utah Valley Hospital (Intermountain Health)
Utah Valley Hospital, at 1034 N 500 W in Provo about 15 miles south of Lehi, has the highest-level NICU in Utah County — a Level III NICU verified on intermountainhealthcare.org — with 24/7 neonatologists, maternal-fetal medicine specialists, neonatal transport capability, and the capacity to handle births as early as 23–24 weeks gestation. It’s the regional referral center for high-risk pregnancies across Utah County, which means the L&D unit runs busy. Doulas are generally welcome as part of your support team. If you’re navigating a high-risk pregnancy, this is where your OB will likely send you — and a doula who knows the rhythm of this hospital makes a real difference when you’re already processing a lot. Use our free hospital birth plan template so your team has something specific to work from.
Timpanogos Regional Hospital (Intermountain Health)
Timpanogos Regional Hospital, at 750 W 800 N in Orem about 10 miles south of Lehi, is another Intermountain Health option with a Level II NICU (contact the hospital directly for current NICU level verification). It offers full L&D services, private birthing suites, and midwifery care — another community-hospital alternative for Lehi families who want to avoid the drive to Provo. Same Intermountain doula-welcome policy. Download the free birth plan template before your hospital tour.

How it works
What Doula & Midwife Support Looks Like in Lehi
Not sure what the difference is?
A midwife is your medical provider: she can deliver your baby, write prescriptions, and monitor your health. A doula is your support person: she keeps you comfortable, informed, and emotionally held, but doesn't do medical tasks. You can have both, and many Lehi moms do. Learn more about what a doula actually does →
Lehi sits in the heart of Utah County — the highest-birth-rate county in the highest-birth-rate state in the nation. The LDS (Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) culture deeply shapes birth here: large families are the norm, young marriage ages mean many first-time moms in their early twenties, and the doula community is unusually large and affordable because many LDS doulas view birth support as ministry and service rather than purely commerce. The Silicon Slopes tech corridor has brought an influx of young, high-income families to Lehi, creating an interesting mix of traditional LDS birth culture and evidence-based, tech-savvy parenting. Utah County’s birth volume means the hospital L&D units run busy — and having your preferences in writing matters even more.
Continuous labor support
A doula stays with you from early labor through delivery. No shift changes, no leaving the room.
Evidence-based comfort techniques
Breathing, counter-pressure, position changes, proven to reduce C-section rates and shorten labor.
Advocacy before and during birth
Your doula helps you understand your options and practice saying what you want, before you're in the delivery room.
Postpartum follow-up, too
Most Lehi doula packages include at least one postpartum visit, because birth support doesn't end at delivery.
Whether this is your first baby or you're preparing for a VBAC, understanding what a doula does, and how a doula can change your birth experience, can help you decide what support is right for you. Planning for a specific scenario? Read our VBAC birth plan guide or our C-section birth plan template.
How Much Does a Doula or Midwife Cost in Lehi?
In the Lehi area, birth doula packages typically range from $800 to $1,800. Midwife fees vary by type and setting — home birth midwives usually charge a global fee of $4,000–$8,000, while hospital-based CNM care is billed through insurance like a doctor's visit. See our full doula cost breakdown for what's included and what to ask about. If you're also thinking about support after baby arrives, learn what a postpartum doula does and how one can help.
If that number feels steep, you're not alone, and there are options:
- Medicaid: Unfortunately, your state does not yet cover doulas through Medicaid. Some community organizations and volunteer doula programs offer free or reduced-cost support. Ask at your local WIC office or community health center.
- HSA/FSA: Many families don't realize that doula services can often be paid for with HSA or FSA funds, since birth support qualifies as a medical expense under most plans. Check with your plan administrator.
- Sliding-scale doulas: Many Lehi doulas offer payment plans, sliding-scale fees, or reduced packages. Don't be afraid to ask.
- Student doulas: Doulas in training often attend births at reduced rates. It's a great option if budget is tight.
Does Medicaid or Insurance Cover a Doula or Midwife in UT?
Utah Medicaid does NOT cover doula services as of 2026. HB 222 (2024) proposed adding postpartum doula coverage but did not pass. Advocacy groups including the Utah Doula Association and Birth Matters Utah continue pushing for legislation. HSA and FSA funds can cover doula fees, and Utah’s large community of LDS doulas often offer sliding-scale or donation-based pricing — ask individual doulas what’s available.
Utah has no state mandate requiring private insurers to cover doula services. Some tech employers in the Silicon Slopes corridor (Lehi area) offer doula benefits through platforms like Maven Clinic or Carrot Fertility as part of maternal wellness packages — check with your HR department. Otherwise, check whether your plan covers out-of-network doula services, and whether HSA or FSA funds can help cover out-of-pocket costs. Contact your provider directly to confirm.
Not sure what to look for in a doula or midwife? Here's how to choose a doula who fits your birth preferences, your personality, and your budget. For a full breakdown of which states cover doulas and midwives through Medicaid, see our Medicaid doula coverage guide.
What About a Midwife in Lehi?
If you're considering a midwife, you're in good company. More Lehi moms are choosing midwifery care each year. Here's what to know:
Not sure whether you need a doula, a midwife, or both? Our doula vs. midwife guide breaks it down clearly.
- Certified Nurse-Midwives (CNMs) work in hospitals and birth centers and are covered by Medicaid in all 50 states.
- Midwives vs. OBs: Midwives spend more time with you: longer appointments, more conversation, less rushed. OBs are surgeons trained for complications. Both are valid choices for different situations.
- You can have both: Many Lehi practices pair midwives and OBs so you get midwifery-style care with a doctor backing you up if needed.
- Birth centers: Lehi doesn't currently have a freestanding birth center, but midwifery care at local hospitals is still a great option.

When to Start Looking for a Doula or Midwife in Lehi
Start looking around 12 to 20 weeks. That gives you time to meet a few doulas, compare approaches, and lock someone in before their calendar fills up — popular Lehi doulas often book up by the third trimester. Already past 20 weeks? Start now. Most doulas have room in their schedule and would rather work with you late than not at all.
The earlier you connect, the more time your doula has to learn your preferences, understand your hospital's policies, and build trust before labor day. Use the free app to browse doulas serving Lehi and start reaching out today.

Your Questions About Doulas & Midwives in Lehi
The things Lehi moms ask us most, answered honestly.
Does Medicaid cover doulas in Lehi?
Not yet — Utah Medicaid does not currently cover doula services. HB 222 tried to change that in 2024 but didn’t pass. But you still have options: Utah has one of the largest per-capita doula communities in the country, many offering sliding-scale or donation-based pricing. HSA and FSA funds can cover doula fees. And some tech employers in the Silicon Slopes area offer doula benefits — check with HR. Ask any doula you interview about payment flexibility; most would rather work with your budget than see you go without.
How much does a doula cost in Lehi?
Expect to pay $800 to $1,800 for a birth doula in Lehi — notably lower than the national average of $1,500–$2,500+. Utah’s large LDS doula community, where many doulas view birth support as ministry and charge accordingly, keeps prices accessible. The investment typically covers prenatal visits, labor support, and postpartum check-ins. For even lower rates, look for student doulas through the Utah Doula Association or community doula programs. Grab the free birth plan template and start thinking about what matters most to you.
Which hospitals near Lehi accommodate birth plans?
American Fork Hospital (Level II NICU, ~6 miles), Utah Valley Hospital (Level III NICU, ~15 miles), and Timpanogos Regional Hospital in Orem (Level II NICU, ~10 miles) all offer L&D services and generally accommodate birth plans under Intermountain Health’s policy. Utah Valley Hospital is the go-to for high-risk pregnancies — it’s the only Level III NICU in Utah County. Always confirm your hospital’s current visitor and support-person policy during your tour. Grab the free birth plan template so you walk in knowing exactly what you want.
Are there birth centers in Lehi?
No — there are currently no freestanding birth centers in Lehi or anywhere in Utah County. The nearest birth centers are in Salt Lake City, about 30–45 minutes north. Utah families seeking an out-of-hospital birth typically work with licensed home-birth midwives. CPMs became licensable in Utah starting around 2017, which has expanded home birth options. Grab the free birth plan template to think through whether a hospital or home birth is right for you.
