Second Trimester · Week 24
24 Weeks Pregnant: Viability week
Baby development
Your baby at 24 weeks
Your baby is growing steadily and becoming more responsive to sound and touch. Sleep and wake cycles are also starting to become more defined, which is why movement may begin to feel a little more patterned.
Your body this week
What you might be feeling at 24 weeks
The viability milestone. You might start feeling Braxton Hicks more frequently. Your belly is getting bigger, sleep is getting harder, and you might notice stretch marks. Glucose test may be coming up soon. Every day your baby gets stronger.

Twenty-four weeks. This is the viability milestone that so many moms count down to, and it's a big one. If your baby were born now, there's a chance of survival with intensive medical care. I know that sounds scary, but here's what I want you to hold onto: the vast majority of pregnancies continue normally past this point, and every single day your baby is getting stronger. With my seventh, I celebrated this week by eating a giant piece of cake — not because the danger was past, but because my baby was one day closer to being ready. You might start feeling Braxton Hicks contractions around now. They're practice, not labor. If they feel strong or frequent, call your provider, but most of the time, they're just your body warming up.
