36 Weeks Pregnant: Counting down

Baby development

Your baby at 36 weeks

Your baby is looking rounder and fuller now, with more fat on the body and less wrinkling of the skin. This is also a week when the overall position in the uterus starts to matter more as birth gets closer.

What you might be feeling at 36 weeks

Your baby is considered early-term from here. You might feel huge, exhausted, and ready to be done. Cervical checks may start. If you have feelings about induction timing, talk to your provider now. Wash the baby clothes, set up the bassinet, breathe.

Thirty-six weeks. Your baby is considered early-term from here. With my seventh, this was the week I washed all the baby clothes, set up the bassinet, and sat in the nursery just breathing. You might be feeling huge, exhausted, and ready to be done. I felt that way with every single one. This is also when your provider might start doing cervical checks, and the conversation about induction timing might come up. If you have strong feelings about avoiding induction, talk to your provider now — not when you're 41 weeks and panicking. Birth plans are flexible, but knowing your preferences ahead of time means you can advocate for yourself.
